Husband and Wife Series Daily Devotional

Beyond Emotions.

Anchor Scripture: Proverbs 24:3

” Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established. “

A godly and happy home is not built by emotions alone—not even by strong attraction. Emotions are beautiful, but they are unstable; they rise and fall. What sustains a marriage beyond the excitement of feelings is love—the God-kind of love that chooses commitment over convenience and sacrifice over selfishness. True love is intentional; it stays when moods change.

Marriage also requires knowledge. You must understand God’s purpose for marriage, understand your spouse’s temperament, and understand how to communicate, resolve conflicts, and manage responsibilities. Ignorance destroys what emotions started. In addition, there must be preparation. Singles must prepare spiritually, emotionally, and financially before entering marriage. Married couples must keep learning and growing. Lastly, a lasting home demands spiritual maturity—the ability to forgive quickly, control anger, pray together, and submit to God’s principles. When wisdom and understanding are present, the home stands strong beyond feelings.
