IS THERE LUCK IN MARRIAGE?

Anchor Scripture: Amos3:3

” Can two walk together, except they be agreed? “

Many people have given marriage a trial and their experience was not palatable. Because of the pain or disappointment they faced, they conclude that maybe they are not destined to enjoy marriage, while those whose marriages are working are simply lucky. This belief has made some people give up on the beauty and purpose of marriage. However, the truth is that marriage is not sustained by luck; it is sustained by intentional effort, commitment, and the grace of God.

Marriage works when two individuals make a conscious decision to work together. The Bible asks a powerful question in the Book of Amos 3:3: “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?” Agreement is the foundation of a successful marriage. When a husband and wife are united in purpose and are both willing to make sacrifices for the peace and growth of the home, the marriage has a strong chance of thriving. Unfortunately, many homes struggle because while one partner is trying hard to build the relationship, the other is unconsciously tearing it down.

A working marriage requires certain deliberate attitudes. First is commitment—the decision that the marriage must succeed regardless of challenges. Second is communication—the willingness to talk honestly and listen with understanding. Third is forgiveness—because no two imperfect people can live together without occasionally hurting each other. Lastly, mutual respect and love must guide the way couples speak and act toward one another.

When couples intentionally build these virtues into their relationship, marriage stops being a gamble and becomes a growing partnership. A good marriage is not the result of luck; it is the fruit of two people who daily choose love, patience, and unity. With God at the center and both partners committed to growth, any marriage can become a testimony of grace.
