Husband and Wife Series Daily Devotional

Marriage Fantasies

Anchor Scripture: Luke 14:28

” For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it? “

Over the years, my wife and I have spoken with many singles and married couples. We have listened to touching stories and seen unbelievable challenges people go through in marriage. One major reason for this daily devotional is clear: the Lord desires to prepare and preserve young people before they step into marriage.

Many enter marriage with fantasies that are not realistic. These expectations are often shaped by movies, social media highlights, and cultural pressure. What we see online is often edited happiness, not everyday responsibility.

Marriage is not a fairytale; it is a covenant that must be entered with understanding. Jesus teaches us to “count the cost” before building. Marriage is a lifelong structure—you must be spiritually, emotionally, and mentally prepared to finish what you start.
Marriage is more about commitment than chemistry. Feelings may introduce you, but commitment sustains you. It takes maturity to stay, to grow, to forgive, and to build when reality sets in. A successful marriage is not one without storms, but one where two people are determined to finish the journey together with God at the center.

Father, give me wisdom to count the cost and prepare rightly for marriage. Deliver me from unrealistic expectations and immature fantasies.
