Raising Children Together God’s Way

Anchor Scripture: Proverbs 22:6

” Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it. “

Parenting was never designed to be a one-sided responsibility. God’s plan is for both parents to be actively involved in nurturing, guiding, and shaping the lives of their children. When one parent is absent physically, emotionally, or spiritually, it can leave a void that affects a child’s sense of security, identity, and direction. Children thrive best in an environment where love, discipline, and godly values are consistently demonstrated by both parents working together.

Scripture emphasizes the shared responsibility of raising children in the knowledge of God. “Fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord” (Ephesians 6:4). This instruction applies to both parents, highlighting the importance of unity in discipline, teaching, and example. When parents model godly character, pray together, and teach God’s Word, children are more likely to grow with a strong spiritual foundation. Consistency between both parents helps reinforce values and builds stability in the home.

To raise children in the ways of the Lord, parents must be intentional about spending time with them, teaching them Scripture, and living out their faith daily. “These commandments… shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children” (Deuteronomy 6:6–7). It is not just about words, but about example, showing love, forgiveness, patience, and obedience to God. When both parents commit to this divine assignment, they create a nurturing environment where children can grow into individuals who know, love, and serve the Lord.
