Be Courageous and Intentional in Protecting Your Marriage

Anchor Scripture: Matthew 19:6 (NKJV)

” What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate. “

Marriage is a covenant that requires courage, intentionality, and continual commitment. Scripture teaches that there is a spiritual battle against what God has established, and believers are called to stand firm in faith rather than allow conflict, temptation, resentment, or outside influences to destroy their union. Protecting your marriage means choosing love when it is difficult, communicating when silence would be easier, forgiving when you have been hurt, and refusing to give the enemy room to sow division. “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion” (1 Peter 5:8).

A strong marriage does not happen by accident; it is built through daily choices. Husbands and wives must intentionally nurture friendship, trust, intimacy, prayer, respect, and honest communication. When challenges arise, resist the temptation to turn against each other. Instead, remember that you are partners, not enemies. Put on the whole armour of God by filling your home with prayer, truth, righteousness, faith, and the Word of God (Ephesians 6:10–18). When both spouses surrender their hearts to God and choose to persevere together, difficulties can become opportunities for deeper maturity and unity.

Do not be passive about protecting what God has entrusted to you. Guard your hearts, your words, your friendships, your time, and the emotional connection you share with your spouse. Keep Christ at the centre and refuse to let temporary challenges determine the future of your marriage. Through faith, sacrificial love, forgiveness, wisdom, and perseverance, your relationship can withstand storms and flourish again. Remember, “A threefold cord is not quickly broken” (Ecclesiastes 4:12). With God as the third strand, your marriage can stand strong and become a testimony of His faithfulness.
