Family priesthood is not merely about praying for your family; it is about taking spiritual responsibility for the atmosphere and direction of your home. A priest does not wait for someone else to take the lead. He stands before God on behalf of his household and intentionally leads his family towards God. Every husband and father should ask himself: What kind of spiritual legacy am I building in my home?
One of the greatest mistakes a man can make is to assume that providing money, paying school fees, protecting the family, and making important decisions are enough. These things are important, but they do not replace spiritual leadership. Your children need to see that your relationship with God is real. They need to hear you pray, study God’s Word, forgive, show love, and make decisions according to God’s principles.
Joshua understood this responsibility when he declared, “As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD” (Joshua 24:15). Notice that Joshua did not say, “As for me, I will serve the Lord and my family can decide for themselves.” He took responsibility for establishing a godly direction for his household. This does not mean forcing faith upon your family; it means providing godly leadership and creating an environment where knowing and serving God becomes a priority.
Men, your home is your first ministry. Before God uses you to influence people outside your home, He desires you to take seriously the souls He has entrusted to you inside your home. Rise beyond being a husband or father who only provides physically. Become a spiritual covering, an example, a teacher, and an intercessor. Let your family be able to say, “Our father showed us what it means to walk with God.”
