A mother’s love is one of God’s greatest gifts, providing guidance, wisdom, and unwavering support throughout her child’s life. However, when a daughter enters marriage, God establishes a new family unit where the husband and wife are to grow together in unity and make decisions as one. A mother’s influence remains valuable, but it is most effective when expressed through loving encouragement, wise counsel when invited, and faithful prayers rather than control or interference. (Proverbs 31:26; Ephesians 5:31.)
Parents should continue to love and support their married children while respecting the boundaries that protect their marriage. Constant interference or attempts to control marital decisions can create unnecessary tension and weaken the unity God intends. Instead, mothers can strengthen their daughters’ homes by praying for their marriages, speaking words of wisdom, and trusting God to lead the new family. (Proverbs 11:14; James 1:5.)
A godly mother leaves a lasting legacy not by controlling her daughter’s marriage but by pointing her continually to Christ. As mothers release their daughters into the homes God has established for them, they demonstrate trust in His wisdom and sovereignty. Let your greatest contribution to your daughter’s marriage be your prayers, your example, and your unwavering encouragement, believing that God is able to sustain and bless her home. (Philippians 4:6–7; Psalm 127:1.)
