Husband and Wife Series Daily Devotional

Choosing Forgiveness Daily

Anchor Scripture: Ephesians 4:32

” Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. “

Forgiveness is not optional in a relationship; it is essential for maintaining love, trust, and unity. Every marriage or relationship will experience misunderstandings, mistakes, and moments of hurt. Choosing to forgive quickly prevents bitterness and resentment from taking root, which can otherwise weaken the bond between partners. Jesus teaches that forgiveness is a continual practice, reflecting God’s mercy and grace in our daily lives.

Scripture emphasizes the importance of forgiving repeatedly: “Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, ‘Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?’ Jesus answered, ‘I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times’” (Matthew 18:21–22). Forgiveness is not based on feelings but on obedience to God’s command. By forgiving, couples release the offense to God, restore peace, and cultivate an environment where love and trust can thrive.

To practice forgiveness daily, couples should communicate openly, address offenses quickly, and choose to release anger or grudges. Pray together for strength to forgive as Christ forgives, and seek reconciliation before hurt grows into division. A relationship rooted in forgiveness reflects God’s heart and ensures that love remains steadfast through challenges.
