Your heart is the gateway to your decisions, desires, and direction in life. That is why God commands us to guard it diligently. Whether in friendships, business, or marriage, never commit yourself to anything that lacks a godly foundation. A relationship built on deception, compromise, or disobedience to God’s Word may appear attractive, but it cannot produce lasting peace or stability. Before investing your heart, ensure that Christ is at the center and that the relationship is founded on truth, love, and righteousness (2 Corinthians 6:14; Amos 3:3).
Jesus taught that a wise person builds on a solid foundation. The house built on the rock withstood the storms because it was established on obedience to God’s Word, while the one built on sand collapsed when trials came (Matthew 7:24–27). The same principle applies to marriage. A relationship that is not rooted in Christ, shared values, and godly character will struggle when life’s challenges arise. It is far better to walk away from a relationship with a weak foundation than to spend years repairing the consequences of a poor decision.
Ask God for discernment to recognize what is built according to His will and what is not. Never allow emotions, pressure, or temporary pleasures to override biblical wisdom. As you guard your heart and trust God’s leading, He will direct your steps toward relationships and decisions that bring lasting peace, joy, and fulfillment. A life and marriage built on Christ will stand firm through every season because He is the unshakable foundation (Isaiah 26:3–4; Proverbs 3:5–6).
