Fornication begins not with the body, but with a wandering heart. Guard your heart above all else. The Word of God instructs in Book of Proverbs 4:23, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” This reveals a deep truth: actions are often the result of what has already been allowed in the heart. Before outward sin is seen, inward compromise has already taken root.
Jesus also teaches in Gospel of Matthew 5:28 that whoever looks at someone lustfully has already committed adultery in the heart. This shows that purity is not only about physical actions but also about thoughts, intentions, and desires. A wandering heart, if not corrected, eventually leads to a weakened will and compromised choices.
Guarding the heart therefore requires discipline, prayer, and intentional focus on God’s truth. Epistle to the Philippians 4:8 encourages believers to dwell on things that are pure, lovely, and praiseworthy. When the heart is filled with God’s Word and presence, there is little room for impurity to grow. Victory over temptation begins with guarding what enters and influences the heart.
