Model the Love You Want Your Children to Follow

Anchor Scripture: Proverbs 22:6

” Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it. “

Children learn about love long before they understand its definition. They observe how their parents speak to one another, handle disagreements, express affection, and show respect. Every act of kindness, patience, forgiveness, and sacrifice becomes a living lesson that shapes their understanding of healthy relationships. A Christ-centered marriage provides children with a powerful example of love in action. (Ephesians 5:25, 33; Colossians 3:19.)

The way spouses treat each other leaves lasting impressions on the hearts of their children. Harsh words, disrespect, and unresolved conflict can influence how they view marriage, while love, honor, and grace inspire them to pursue godly relationships. Even when differences arise, parents who resolve conflicts with humility and forgiveness demonstrate the transforming power of God’s love. (Ephesians 4:29–32; James 1:19.)

Every marriage is an opportunity to leave a legacy of faith and love for the next generation. Choose daily to honor your spouse, speak words that build up, and reflect Christ in your home. As your children witness genuine love and mutual respect, they are more likely to embrace those same values in their own relationships, bringing glory to God through generations to come. (Deuteronomy 6:6–7; 1 Corinthians 16:14.)
