One of God’s divine purposes for marriage is to raise children who know, love, and serve Him. Children are not merely a blessing to be enjoyed but a sacred responsibility entrusted to parents. God desires that fathers and mothers intentionally nurture their children in His ways, teaching them His Word through both instruction and example. A godly home lays the foundation for children to develop a personal relationship with God and become instruments for His kingdom (Deuteronomy 6:6–7; Proverbs 22:6).
The life of Samuel is a powerful example of this truth. Before he was born, Hannah dedicated him to the Lord in prayer, and after God answered her, she faithfully fulfilled her vow by presenting him to serve in the house of the Lord (1 Samuel 1:11, 24–28). Although Samuel grew up in a spiritually challenging environment under Eli, his early dedication to God and continual guidance enabled him to become a prophet who faithfully served Israel (1 Samuel 2:26; 3:19). His life reminds us that when parents intentionally commit their children to God and raise them in His ways, they position them to fulfill God’s purpose.
Parents should never leave the spiritual development of their children to chance. Through consistent prayer, godly instruction, loving discipline, and Christlike example, they can help shape a generation that honors the Lord. May every Christian home become a place where children are taught to fear God, obey His Word, and live for His glory. The greatest legacy parents can leave is not wealth or possessions, but a heritage of faith that points their children to Christ (Ephesians 6:4; Psalm 127:3–5).
