Guard Your Heart Through Your Relationships

Anchor Scripture: 1 Corinthians 15:33

” Do not be misled: ‘Bad company corrupts good character. “

The people we spend time with have a powerful influence on our character, decisions, and spiritual life. God designed relationships to either strengthen or weaken us, depending on the company we keep. Singles and couples alike must be intentional about surrounding themselves with people who reflect godly values, encourage holiness, and promote unity. Consistently beholding the attitudes, behaviors, and words of those around us shapes our thoughts, habits, and ultimately our destiny.

Scripture warns against harmful associations. “Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common?” (2 Corinthians 6:14). Whether in friendship, romance, or social circles, wrong influences can subtly erode faith, sow division, and introduce temptation. Choosing companions who honor God helps build resilience, wisdom, and joy in your relationship. Their encouragement reinforces godly principles and keeps your focus on eternal values rather than temporary pleasures.

To avoid wrong associations, singles should seek friends and mentors who inspire godly growth, while couples should protect their union by surrounding themselves with like-minded believers. Pray for discernment, set healthy boundaries, and evaluate the influence of every relationship in your life. When God is at the center of your connections, He ensures that the relationships you keep build character, nurture love, and guide you toward His purpose.
