Husband and Wife Series Daily Devotional

Resolve the Conflict, Not Attack Your Spouse

Anchor Scripture: Proverbs 15:1

” A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. “

Disagreements are a natural part of every marriage, but they should never become opportunities to wound one another. God calls husbands and wives to approach conflict with humility, patience, and love, remembering that the goal is not to win an argument but to strengthen the relationship. When we choose gentle words over hurtful ones and seek understanding instead of blame, we create room for healing and reconciliation. (James 1:19–20; Ephesians 4:29.)

In moments of tension, remember that your spouse is not your enemy—the issue is. Rather than criticizing character or reopening old wounds, focus on identifying the problem and working together toward a solution. Honest communication, active listening, and a willingness to forgive preserve unity and deepen trust. Couples who face problems side by side, instead of turning against each other, build stronger and healthier marriages. (Ephesians 4:26–27, 31–32; Colossians 3:13.)

Let every disagreement become an opportunity to demonstrate Christ’s love and maturity. Pray before reacting, speak with grace, and seek peace above personal pride. As you resolve conflicts God’s way, your marriage will grow in understanding, unity, and resilience, becoming a testimony of His wisdom and transforming grace. (Romans 12:18; Matthew 5:9.)
