When We Keep Our Eyes on God

Anchor Scripture: Proverbs 10:22

” The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it. “

Money is an important part of family life, but it was never designed to become the master of the home. God gives us resources to meet our needs, care for our families, help others, and advance His purposes. However, when money becomes the centre of our decisions, it can create greed, secrecy, comparison, resentment, and unnecessary conflict between husband and wife. Scripture reminds us that “the love of money is the root of all evil” (1 Timothy 6:10). The problem is not money itself, but allowing our hearts to become controlled by it.

In marriage, money should be a tool for building the family, not a weapon for controlling one another. Couples should cultivate honesty, openness, contentment, and wisdom in financial matters. Decisions about income, spending, saving, giving, and investments should be approached with unity rather than suspicion or competition. When spouses recognize that everything they have ultimately belongs to God, they can learn to manage their resources as faithful stewards rather than allowing finances to become a source of division (Psalm 24:1; Proverbs 21:5).

Let us therefore invite God into our financial decisions and allow His wisdom to guide our priorities. Instead of asking, “What can money do for me?” let us ask, “How can we use what God has entrusted to us to honour Him and bless our family?” When money is placed in its proper position, it can become a means of provision, generosity, security, and blessing. May our homes be places where financial matters are handled with love, transparency, wisdom, and prayer, so that money serves the family rather than rules it (Deuteronomy 8:18; 2 Corinthians 9:7).

Daily Prayer:

Lord, help us to see money as a tool and never allow it to become the master of our hearts or home. Give us wisdom, honesty, and unity in managing the resources You have entrusted to us. Teach us to use our finances to provide for our family, bless others, and honour You.
